Choose a route that fits

How to choose the right Machu Picchu package

Compare the complete itinerary, not just its number of days. Arrival time, overnight locations, train departure, the Machu Picchu entry slot and your onward flight all affect how relaxed a package feels. The routes below show what each trip is designed to cover; your written quote confirms the services and current availability.

How many days do you have?

With three days, the Machu Picchu 3-day tour combines Cusco, the Sacred Valley and the citadel in a compact itinerary. It includes two hotel nights, breakfast, guided visits, round-trip train, bus and the Machu Picchu ticket; allow for a busy schedule and coordinate it with your flights.

With four days, the Cusco & Machu Picchu 4-day package gives the region more room, with three hotel nights, the city and Sacred Valley tours, and an overnight in Aguas Calientes. For five or six days, Cusco, Machu Picchu & Rainbow Mountain adds a choice of high-Andes excursion, subject to the selected itinerary and your comfort at altitude.

Where does your trip start?

Most itineraries begin in Cusco. If you are coming from Lima, the Machu Picchu tour from Lima coordinates Lima and Cusco transfers, hotels and the rail journey; domestic flights are quoted separately at the current fare. Cruise passengers can compare the Machu Picchu shore excursion from Callao, designed for a ship staying at least one night in port. It is not a same-day excursion, and flight and port timings need to be confirmed before booking.

What pace and elevation suit you?

Many visitors combine the city of Cusco, at about 3,400 m, with the lower Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu at about 2,430 m. A slower sequence may feel more manageable, but no itinerary can guarantee acclimatization or prevent altitude illness. If you want a private, easy-pace itinerary, Machu Picchu for Seniors includes private transfers and guides, a Vistadome train and three hotel nights. Read the Machu Picchu altitude guide and plan rest around your arrival.

Would you like to see more of Peru?

Add the rainforest with Amazon & Machu Picchu, which combines Cusco and the citadel with a Tambopata lodge, or travel south with Lake Titicaca & Machu Picchu, including visits around Puno. If none of these routes fits your dates, ask us to shape a custom Peru trip around your priorities.

What's included in a Machu Picchu package

Inclusions vary by itinerary, so compare the product details and written quote. Cusco packages list hotels with breakfast, airport or hotel transfers, road transport between the city and Sacred Valley stations, guides for the stated visits, the train to Aguas Calientes, the shuttle bus and the Machu Picchu entrance ticket. Packages with Cusco or Sacred Valley sightseeing also list the corresponding site tickets and meals included on those days.

International flights are not included. Domestic flights for Lima or Amazon routes are quoted separately at the current fare. Most lunches and dinners are not included unless the itinerary specifies them; for example, the Cusco and Sacred Valley packages list a buffet lunch on the valley day, while the Amazon lodge includes full board during the lodge stay. Travel insurance, tips and optional mountain tickets are separate unless your quote says otherwise. Check hotel names or category, train class, ticket route and luggage arrangements in the final itinerary.

Shared or private Machu Picchu packages

Some itineraries offer a shared price and a private price. Shared excursions follow the group schedule and bring travelers together for the services identified in the quote; group size and transport arrangements vary by tour. A private option is organized for your party and may include private guiding or transfers, depending on the package. The Seniors itinerary is private-only. Your quote will spell out which services are shared, what is private, the group size and the price basis before you decide.

If you already have your own transport and only need a dedicated visit at the citadel, see the private Machu Picchu tour guide with an option to add the ticket and bus. If you need help selecting train times, hotel nights and visits across several days, send your dates and group details so the whole route can be checked together.

When to book your Machu Picchu package

Tickets for popular dates and train departures have limited inventory. If you plan to travel in the busy dry-season months, request your preferred dates well ahead and keep alternatives for the entry circuit, train time and hotel. Other dates can also sell out, so availability is only confirmed after the team checks the suppliers for your itinerary.

Start with the Machu Picchu ticket and train sequence, then fit hotels and regional tours around it. Read our best time to visit guide to compare seasonal conditions, and check the Machu Picchu ticket guide before choosing a route. We send a written quote with the itinerary, inclusions, exclusions, payment schedule and cancellation terms; review these details before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Machu Picchu tour packages: FAQs

What is the best Machu Picchu package for first-time visitors?

The Cusco and Machu Picchu 4-day package is a balanced option: it includes Cusco, the Sacred Valley and an overnight in Aguas Calientes before the visit. The right choice still depends on your arrival time, pace and available tickets.

How much does a Machu Picchu tour package cost?

Current starting prices are US$ 549 for 3 days, US$ 799 for 4 days and US$ 989 for the 6-day Cusco and Machu Picchu itinerary, based on shared services and basic hotels. Private rates for two start at US$ 749, US$ 1,090 and US$ 1,330 respectively. Flights, dates, hotel level and train class affect the final quote.

Are flights included in Machu Picchu packages?

International flights are not included. Domestic flights are quoted separately at the current fare when required, including itineraries from Lima or the Amazon.

Which hotels do you use?

Basic tourist-class hotels are standard on the Cusco packages. Selected itineraries include specified 3-star hotels, and 3-star, 4-star or boutique upgrades can be requested. Your quote names the hotel level and overnight locations.

Can I change a Machu Picchu package?

Yes. You can request extra nights, a different hotel level, train upgrades or additional visits. We confirm availability, changes and the revised total in a custom quote before payment.

Is a 3-day package enough for Machu Picchu?

It can cover Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu in a compact itinerary. A 4-day route adds more time in the region and may feel less compressed; compare the travel days with your flight schedule.

Can I start a Machu Picchu package in Lima?

Yes. The Lima itinerary includes transfers in Lima and Cusco, hotels, trains, the Machu Picchu visit and listed entrance fees. Flights are quoted separately, and the schedule is planned around the available services.

How much luggage can I take on the Machu Picchu train?

The allowance depends on the train operator and service. A small day or overnight bag is practical; check the current allowance on your confirmed ticket and arrange to leave larger luggage at your hotel.
