The Inca Trail is the only way to reach Machu Picchu on foot through the Sun Gate, and permits are limited every day. We are a licensed tour operator based in Cusco. We check permit availability before payment and arrange it in your name after the payment stated in your quote. Choose the classic 4-day trek, the 1-day hike, or a slower or more private version. If your date is sold out, we tell you right away and offer the best alternative.

Inca Trail permits 2026-2027

About 500 permits are issued per day, and that number includes guides, cooks and porters. The trail closes every February for maintenance. Permits are personal and cannot be refunded or transferred. For May to September, book 4-6 months ahead.

Before you go

How hard is the Inca Trail?

The 4-day trek covers about 40 km and crosses Dead Woman's Pass at 4,215 m. Most people with good basic fitness and two days in Cusco to acclimatize complete it.

Can I hike the Inca Trail without a tour?

No. By law, every hiker must go with a licensed operator and an official guide.

What is the difference between the Classic and the Short Inca Trail?

The Classic takes 4 days and 3 nights of camping from Km 82. The Short trek starts at Km 104 and is one day of hiking, plus a hotel night and a guided visit of Machu Picchu.

What if the Inca Trail is sold out?

We offer the Short Inca Trail, Salkantay or Lares on your dates. You pay nothing until a new option is confirmed.
