Inca Jungle Trek itinerary: day by day
Times and services are indicative. Your final schedule is confirmed in your written quote.
Day 1 — Downhill biking and rafting
The drive climbs to the Abra Málaga pass, where you get your bike, helmet and gloves. From there you ride down a paved mountain road for about 3 hours, from cold high grassland into warm cloud forest, with the support van always behind the group. After lunch, in the afternoon, you raft a stretch of the Urubamba River with professional instructors (river conditions permitting). Night in Santa María.
Day 2 — Inca trail to Santa Teresa
You hike a section of original Inca trail along the mountainside above the Urubamba, through coca, coffee and fruit farms, stopping at a local family's house to taste fresh fruit and coffee. In the evening you soak in the Cocalmayo hot springs before dinner in Santa Teresa.
Day 3 — Zipline and the walk to Aguas Calientes
In the morning you fly across the valley on one of the region's longest ziplines. After a transfer to Hidroeléctrica and lunch, you walk about 2.5–3 hours along the railway and the river to Aguas Calientes.
Day 4 — Machu Picchu
An early bus takes you to Machu Picchu for your guided visit. In the afternoon you take the train back to Ollantaytambo and a transfer to Cusco. Lunch and dinner on Day 4 are not included.

Do I need biking or rafting experience?
No. Both are beginner-friendly, and the guides give a safety briefing first.
Can I skip an activity?
Yes. You can ride in the support van or wait while the group goes rafting or ziplining. Skipped activities are not refunded.
Is the Inca Jungle good for families?
It suits active teenagers and adults. For younger children we recommend the Machu Picchu train tours.
Is rafting always possible?
It depends on the river level, and it may be cancelled in the rainy season (December to March) for safety.
Do I need special travel insurance?
Yes. The activities are not insured by us, so buy travel insurance that covers adventure sports (biking, rafting and zipline) before you travel.
Where do we sleep?
In basic hostels in Santa María and Santa Teresa, and in Aguas Calientes on the last night. There are no upgrade options.
What is the weather like?
Cold and often rainy at the start on Abra Málaga, then hot and humid in the jungle. Sand flies are common, so bring repellent.
